The adoption of the Constitution

The continetal congress
During 1787-1788 Thomas Jefferson was Abroad in England when they were adopting this Constitution. While abroad he had contact with Adams, they talked about the new proponents of the Articles of confederation which would soon become the Constitution. He criticized some of the new additions, praised some of them and said that some were just too bad to say. During this time shay’s rebellion took place which was a rebellion over the cumulating debt that was to be taken care of by policies that would increase the debt in Massachusetts which took place in 1787. Jefferson compared this rebellion with the ones happening in France at the time and said that that was nothing and they were worrying way too much because that was nothing. He had another problem: no way to state exactly what the citizens rights were The Bill of rights is what it would be called. He wrote back to Madison of this and said that he hoped that it would not be passed until these bills of rights were added. Madison was angered how could someone who was not there be criticizing all the hard work they have made to get this far and really how could he want it to fail without the Bill of rights. If Jefferson would have been at this meeting with all the other men he probably wouldn’t have said most of what he wrote or have stood up for what he though and our constitution and lives would be a lot different from what they are today.
